Students, at times, are faced with a lack of access to nutritious meals as they journey through college. Research suggests that food insecurity occurs at both two-year and four-year institutions with 20% of 4-year college students experiencing hunger (Hunger on Campus, 2016). The Knights for Nutrition pantry seeks to support undergraduate and graduate students to avoid hunger by providing access to nutritional food so that they can focus on their studies and reach their academic goals.
Dedicated student workers, a committed graduate assistant and a committee of staff and students oversee and manage the pantry. We have generous partners who consistently provide donated items and monetary gifts. Food drives are held at least 3 times each academic year.
Students have the opportunity to “shop” with a certain number of points once per week for nonperishable foods, fresh produce (limited), toiletry items and menstrual hygiene products.
Donations can be made any time when the pantry is open. Outside of those times, we can be reached at aupantry@arcadia.edu.
Currently, these are some of the ongoing donors that are helping us keep the food pantry successful:
"It's hard to focus on your education when you don't know where your next meal is coming from."- Jordan Beck ('20, Co-Chair of YSDA)
"I am a commuter living alone in Philly so thank you to everyone who has organized the pantry because without it, it would be extremely difficult for me to remain nourished while on campus."
"The pantry has helped me more than I can explain. It is so nice to not have to worry about how I am going to pay for food for the week. So, thank you so much! :)"
"I really like everything the pantry offers as well as is super useful in helping me between paychecks."
The following items would be highly appreciated for donations:
Please avoid items packaged in glass and all items should be non-perishable. For our students, we prefer easy-to-open cans that do not require a can opener. Here are guidelines for donating food past expiration dates.
