“So I want to just start by saying we are all learners. We don't have all the answers, and that I've been using this metaphor that Fred Erickson taught me. That learning is like surfing that in learning in order to learn anything. You have to be able to lean into the wave and that can be pretty scary. But that if we keep standing up straight and safe. Then we never get the payoff of learning something new. So I just want to invite everyone to learn today. And as we move forward and to keep making mistakes and being vulnerable.”

“Our job is to try to help connect people and connect the dots, the image that I've had in my mind about this is that Arcadia as a place where there are all kinds of amazing fires burning, in particular programs particular departments particular units that really capture the best of teaching, learning and mentoring and so part of our job as a center is to find those fires add oxygen to them when necessary ... and then try to build a kind of interactive map of what we're doing and why we're doing it and how we're doing it across campus so that that work can be more than the sum of its parts right that it's not just little pockets of people staying warm around their little fires, but that we actually have something that's giving off quite a bit of heat for everyone on campus.”
